White with thick red and blue stripes. The Brumos Racing livery, worn by the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 that won the 1973 Daytona 24 Hours outright.
Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood drove chassis R4 to victory, 22 laps clear of the second-placed Ferrari. The RSR wasn't even homologated for GT racing yet, so it lined up in the Prototype class against Gulf-liveried Mirages and factory Matras. It beat them all.
Brumos ran out of a Porsche dealership in Jacksonville, Florida. Not a factory team. Proof that the right car, in the right colours, in the right hands, could win at the highest level.
Every Porsche enthusiast knows these stripes on sight. Fifty years on, they still mean the same thing: a privateer outfit that beat the establishment at its own race.
